Welcome back to Avarta’s weekly gaming news round-up.

This week we cover many exciting developments happening in the space.

First, we cover Square Enix’s first NFT project. Then we cover Bounty Temple’s loft goals, NFT World’s plans to create its own Minecraft-like game, Animoca Brands launches DAO and TenthPlanets’ two upcoming blockchain games.

This week’s blockchain gaming news update will cover all this and more.

Square Enix Launches First NFT Project on Enjin’s Efinity Blockchain

Square Enix, the acclaimed Japanese video game developer, has launched the first phase of its Web3 plans by launching NFTs based on the Final Fantasy VII game on the Efinity blockchain.

The video game developer has teamed up with Enjin, a product ecosystem that assists humanity in creating advanced virtual economies through blockchain technology.

Through this partnership, the pair are launching NFTs based on characters from Final Fantasy VII, one of the most popular games in Square Enix’s catalogue.

This isn’t Square Enix’s first project within the Web3 space. The Final Fantasy game series creator previously partnered with The Sandbox, a leading Web3 gaming company, to bring the Dungeon Siege game to the metaverse.

Animoca Brands Launches DAO to Develop Metaverse Standards

Animoca Brands and several other prominent names within the industry have partnered to help with interoperability among virtual worlds within the Web3 space. This partnership will focus on building an open and borderless metaverse called OMA3, or the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3.

The group aims to solve critical challenges of the nascent metaverse, such as preserving the freedom of information owned by users.

Projects joining the new alliance with Animoca Brands include Alien Worlds, Dapper Labs, Decentraland, Star Atlas, and The Sandbox. On top of the Web3 projects already linked to Animoca, the alliance consists of DAO framework developer Wivity, virtual reality and game developer Space, and blockchain gaming company Upland.

Bounty Temple Takes Steps to Revolutionize Blockchain Gaming

Bounty Temple plans to address the many problems within the current P2E (Play-to-Earn) gaming ecosystem through its innovative Play-to-Earn-Evolution (P2EE). This innovative approach will allow the world to experience truly rewarding and sustainable blockchain gaming with Bounty Temple’s new and exclusive P2EE paradigm.

Players can play with or against other players in the Bounty Temple game using a specifically developed NFT known as Bounty Temple Monument. Thanks to its easy-to-play mechanics, Bounty Temple is suitable for all players, regardless of skill level.

Bounty Temple was created by Alton Lim and Jia Hui Tan and is a blockchain game built on the Polygon network.

TenthPlanet Reveals Two Upcoming Blockchain Games

TenthPlanet, a game studio started by former TikTok gaming leaders, plans to launch two ambitious blockchain games.

The two games the company is working on include Mech Angel, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game inspired by the smash hits Genshin Impact, and a digital cat metaverse named Alien Meow.

TenthPlanet already has over 100 game developers working on Unreal Engine and Unity titles with triple-A production values.

Head of the studio Kevin Yeung spoke on the project’s goals: “We’ve been building mobile games for the past 10 years,” Yeung said. “Our goal is to make games that last for a decade. We are positioning ourselves as digital nation builders, digital world builders.”

NFT Worlds Plans to Create its Own Minecraft Game Following Mojang ban

Minecraft and Microsoft recently announced that third parties can not use the Minecraft ecosystem for Web3, digital assets, blockchain, and NFT-based projects.

In response to this, NFT Worlds has declared that it will make a game similar to Minecraft to tend to those within the Web3 space:

“We’re creating a new game and platform based on many of the core mechanics of Minecraft, but with the modernization and active development, Minecraft has been missing for years. This is not a rewrite of some open source Minecraft clone, which likely would violate the EULA or still risk legal action; this is entirely from the ground up. This transition will additionally come with a public-facing brand identity change that is more player friendly.

While the playstyle, look and feel of this will be very familiar to Minecraft players, the game mechanics, graphics, performance optimizations and overall improvements will usher in a more accessible, ownable and enjoyable playing experience. Best of all, we’ll be completely untethered from the policy enforcement Microsoft and Mojang have over Minecraft. We truly become our own open game and platform.”

That wraps up this edition of Avarta’s weekly gaming news update.
